NWP and Data Assimilation
The NWP and Data Assimilation group works to improve numerical weather forecasts. Using ensemble methods, we combine the information provided by short-range forecasts and by a variety of observing systems. We work on assimilating novel satellite observations, on estimating the impact of future observations on forecast skill, and on correcting parameterizations based on observational constraints. We contribute to the TEAMx research programme, which included a year-long field observation phase in 2025 in the Alps, by leading the production of the corresponding reanalysis dataset.
