Aiko Voigt starts as Professor of Climate Science in January 2021. He joins Vienna from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, where he has been leading a young investigator group since fall 2016. Previously Aiko has also worked at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique and the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology. Aiko is interested in questions related to the coupling of clouds with the atmospheric circulation, the dynamics of tropical rain belts and the habitability of Snowball Earth planets. For this, he develops and employs hierarchies and ensembles of climate models. In Vienna he is particularly looking forward to exploit the next generation of global storm resolving models to understand fundamental questions regarding the climate of Earth (and Earth-like planets).
